So, as we start to talk about this whole idea of the coaching model, I want to remind you of one key thing. Remember the model isn’t the biggest thing. You see it’s the mindset that we’ve got to focus on. I have coaches who get stuck in the model of how many sessions should it be? When should it be? Should they be two hours long? How much should they pay? Do I do a credit model or hybrid model? Do you think I should do a flex or a standard? Look, that’s not the point.
The point is that if I look up, say Butch Harmon, who actually is one of the best coaches of all time, ’cause he teaches such an array of players, I doubt that he has Dustin Johnson currently in a credit model on every Tuesday evening. Right? The idea is, he knows Dustin’s goals. He knows Dustin’s personality. He knows what he needs to give him. He knows how to hold him accountable. He knows when he needs to be pushed and when he needs to be reigned back in. The fact is coaching is more about the mindset that you’re gonna bring on a daily basis to your players. About giving them what they need, about listening to their struggles, building up plans to obtain those goals, and helping them to unlock their potential.
Remember as a coach we truly believe the result is inside our player and it’s our role to pull it out. If we’re an instructor, we’re giving more information so that somebody can maybe find or fix a problem. if you want lasting change as a coach, it has to be more about getting the results out of them and truthfully less about golf and more about heart, and personality, and beliefs, and courage, and believing that you have the potential. And there’s nothing better than to have a great coach who pushes you and strives you to those levels. So remember this, don’t get stuck when you’re out talking and sharing of your passion about this program. Not selling, sharing your passion. It’s not about the product, it’s about the benefits it brings to you and that’s the mindset you have to be in so that you have success in growing your programs and getting results for your players.
